The UFC will end the year with a bang and probably a couple taps with UFC 207 which features two huge title fights at the top of the card. first up we have Amanda Nunes defending her bantamweight championship against the former champ Ronda Rousey. Nunes in a bit of a rare spot as a champ as she enters the fight as an underdog which I’m not sure I agree with. So Justin what do you think about this line should bettors be jumping all over Nunes as a plus money? Well, obviously I think we’re always going to see Rhonda in that minus money territory, barring a fight against Cyborg which I doubt is ever going to happen at this point. Obviously Rousey was the most dominant champion maybe ever.
She’s undefeated absolutely wrecking shop and that’s still fresh in the public’s mind and Nunes is still fairly new to a lot of the public bettors, so we’re going to see a lot of public money on Rousey. I doubt she’ll ever come about that even mark and this is still the smallest line of Rousey’s career. Before this is -380 against I believe it was Sarah McMahon.
So this is still the best value gonna find on Ronday yet. Okay great, so we all know that Rousey does her best work on the ground as 9 of her 12 wins have come via submission but Nunes appears to have a massive advantage on the feet as nine of her 13 career wins have come by KO so if this fight hits the mat is it game over for Nunes or do you think Rousey can even get it there? While looking at it on paper it does definitely look that way but it’s a little more nuanced than that it really is gonna be a matter of top control if this does go to the ground. Rousey is very good with submissions obviously we know her arm bar is up there but Nunes is also very strong on ground-and-pound that’s really where she makes her living in just pounding out victories.
But I think the important battle and this one is going to be in the clinch both women are incredibly strong very athletic and like to fight in close so it’s really going to be that battle that dictates it whoever is going to win that real strength battle along the cage I think it’s going to get that advantage. Next we have one of the best pound-for-pound fighters in the world and one of the biggest favorites on the card Dominick Cruz defending his Bantamweight title against undefeated power puncher Cody Garbrandt. Justin I look at this fight Cruz’ world-class footwork and movement vs. Garbrandt’s power. Is there more to it than that? While Cruz is known for his footwork and his ability to not hit which is really astounding, some of the best in the world.
However he is also some of the best wrestling in division which often goes overlooked. Now you look at Garbrandt, he boxed most of his life but most people forget he was an all-state wrestler in high school as well so he is very good at defending takedowns. So with those two factors playing into it I do say yeah this is ultimately going to be a fight on the feet and I think it’s going to be Cruz trying to avoid that big power punch and trying to not get tracking by Garbrandt who is looking to take his head off.
